It's nice to hold to lofty ideals or ivory-tower intellectualism, but out in no man's land, they're both about as valuable as horse dung. There are no Knights or Paladins riding in to save you. You have to survive by any means necessary, and there are always those who want to take what you've worked for. It's a hard life, and it breeds hard people. The people of the frontiers will do whatever it takes to protect themselves, and they won't suffer a tyrant.
